The LG GW990 brings Intel's power sipping Moorestown CPU (Intel's next-generation platform for handhelds and smartphones), The device is based on Intel Moblin 2.1 OS, which is based on Linux platform. It can multitask with ease, play 720p HD movie files without stuttering and boast of a S-Class user interface.

GW990 specs like 4.8-inch screen with 1024x480 pixel resolution display, 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash, WiFi, A-GPS, digital compass, HSDPA (7.2Mbps), HSUPA (5.6Mbps), onscreen keyboard, 16GB of internal storage, 512MB RAM and microSD card slot make GW900 tower above other smartphones but it'll be interesting to see it whether Intel's presence in the smartphone segment will be able to change the rules of the game.

An extra effort has been done to create a handset that is really power-efficient, consuming 10 times less electricity than last year's Atom chipsets. That should help the 1850 mAh battery last for quite a while even with a screen of this caliber.

Intel and Nokia certainly surprised a few of us yesterday when they decided to merge Moblin and Maemo into the new, more terribly-named MeeGo OS, but it looks like LG is ready to roll with it -- the Moorestown-powered LG GW990 we saw at CES will be one of the first MeeGo phones when it launches later this year. Of course, that doesn't mean much of anything beyond branding, since the GW990 uses a custom UI on top of the x86-based Moblin core and we doubt there's any of Maemo's ARM-based code involved there, but it's a definite sign of things to come. So, Nokia -- are we going to see a Moorestown N900, or what?
